Today is Vishu - Kerala New Year.
All the Keralites celebrate the new year with a Vishukkani and a sumptuous lunch.
Early morning the first thing you see when you open the eyes is the Vishukkani, which consists of a lamp similar to what you see above, fresh fruits, coconuts, fresh flowers, new clothes, gold coin etc. The idea is that by seeing all these good things on the first day of the new year, your entire year will be like that.
